Can you believe it?  I can't!  No way...  this little guy is a year old.  And so is the Dylan Zone!  I can't tell you how fast the last year has flown by.  It's been the best year of my life, because I was able to share it with Julie and Dylan, my family.
  • Please note: as Dylan grows more active, he's also more and more fun to be with.  That means less time for web page updates.  Starting in '03, expect to see bi-monthly Zone updates instead.  Sorry.

For Dylan's first birthday (Dec. 1) we had a small party.  Just family: Grandparents Robert & Norma, Aunt Missy and Uncle Logan, Aunt Mary, and cousin Jonathan all came over for cake and presents.

Here's the man of the hour moments before tasting the sweet reward for a year on this earth.  He's not too thrilled to be in his high chair...  but he really doesn't know how much great stuff is in store for him.

Now that's more like it!  He's really starting to get into the Birthday spirit.  I know, I know...  it's the oldest cliché there is: a baby with his face and hands covered in birthday cake.  Still, couldn't resist.

Admit it...  if this picture wasn't here, you'd email and ask why!

Birthdays mean presents (even if they do fall in the middle of Hanukkah), and this one was no exception.  The big, bumpy, green ball at left has proven to be the best toy EVER.

At right he's getting some ducky slippers, and a bunch of cloths.

Of course, he liked the boxes and wrapping more than any of the presents.

Did someone mention Hanukkah?  Yes!  This was Dylan's second Hanukkah, and I think he enjoyed this one more than last year (he was only a couple of weeks old at the time).

Here we are, lighting the lights on the second night.  Between Hanukkah, birthday, Shabbat and Hav Dahlah, Dylan has seen a lot of candles in his short life.

Just because Dylan's birthday fell during Hanukkah this year, didn't mean that he got cheated on presents.  You'd be amazed how many people have asked me about that...  I mean, genuinely concerned that he would get shafted.

These people don't know Julie and me very well.  Dylan got something all eight nights, and some nights he got several somethings.  Here he is in his Hanukkah hat (I love the hat!) getting ready to open up more stuff.  Julie's also holding a gift...  a shirt, I think.

Hanukkah is a time for family, so Logan and Missy and Jonathan came over to make latkes and open presents with us.  Jonathan got some great toy cars.  I hear they've seen pretty rough use since then.

It's tough love.  Tough love.

Getting past the holidays, we're just hanging out.  I've been home all week eating up the last of my vacation time for the year.  Spending time at home with my favorite two people is great.

This is one of the best pictures I've ever taken of Julie and Dylan.  I expect to get a hard copy of this one framed.  They look so comfortable together.  I'm a little jealous...  but also happy.  They are really good for each other.

Perfect, in fact.

One year in the Dylan Zone has been a wild ride.  All you can do is hang on and enjoy it.

Come back often.  We love to see you!
